Localizing a .chm File

How to localize a .chm file? Firstly, there is an interesting post about this topic on venTAJAmarketing blog. Secondly, I decompiled the file using HTML Help Workshop application and used CatsCradle CAT tool to translate the extracted .html files and others. CatsCradle is inexpensive compared with some other tools.

Other tools for help files > Sisulizer Enterprise, Lingobit.

  1. I had the same problem a month or so ago. By pure luck, I found out how to convert .chm files. On a Mac, double clicking a .chm file doesn’t help much. But the Mac suggested to use calibre (http://calibre-ebook.com) to open it, which I used. Calibre is cross-platform, open source and free software to manage e-books. I turned out I could not only open the file, but I could also convert it, in my case into .rtf, but other options include:
Input Formats: CBZ, CBR, CBC, CHM, EPUB, FB2, HTML, LIT, LRF, MOBI, ODT, PDF, PRC**, PDB, PML, RB, RTF, TCR, TXT

Output Formats: EPUB, FB2, OEB, LIT, LRF, MOBI, PDB, PML, RB, PDF, TCR, TXT

    Amazing, isn’t it?

    Cheers,

    Hans
